Agustín Hernández

Religious of the Order of Friars Minor and Rector Magnificus of Pontifical University of Saint Anthony

Agustín Hernández is a religious of the Order of the Friars Minor and is a Professor at the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome, an institution promoted by the Order of the Friars Minor, where he teaches Ancient Philosophy and Philosophical Aesthetics.

Among his publications are the titles: El "sentido de la vida" y el pensamiento franciscano (in English The "Meaning of Life" and Franciscan Thought) (2014), Alcune considerazioni sull'estetica di Platone nel Novecento (in English Other Considerations on the Aesthetics of Plato in the Novecento) (2014), I sofisti e l'utilità del lavoro (in English Sophistication and the Utility of Work) (2015) and Francescanesimo e mondo attuale: stile di vita francescana (in English Franciscanism and the Current World: the Style of the Franciscan Life) (2016).

His areas of research include, among others, two fundamental themes: Franciscan aesthetics, based on the worldview of the experience of St. Francis of Assisi, and Latin American philosophy; in this last field he is in line with Professor Raúl Fornet Betancourt with intercultural philosophy.

He obtained a degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical University Antonianum (2003) and a PhD from the same institution, studying Plato's "Philebus" under the direction of Professor Maurizio Migliori.

He is originally from Uruapan, Michoacán; he has been Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy (2011-2019) and Vice-rector (2014-2019) of the Pontifical University Antonianum, of which he is currently the Magnificent Rector.
