Jorge Xavier

Dean of the School of Economic Science and Administration of the University of the Republic, Uruguay

Saldanha is a public accountant from the School of Economic Science and Administration of the University of the Republic (FCEA-UDELAR) in Uruguay. Dean of the School since 2018, he was reelected in 2022. He began his teaching activity in 1990.

He develops courses in the Academic Unit of Administration and Management of Organizations; and Specialization and Master in Business Strategy and Costs, and Business Management courses. He has been responsible for training courses abroad for officials of the Central Bank of Cuba, the Central Bank of Argentina, and in Uruguay (Oficina Nacional del Servicio Civil, Dirección Nacional de Empleo).

At UDELAR, in addition to being a member of the Consejo Directivo Central, he represents the Social and Artistic Area in the Comisión Programática Presupuestal, the Grupo de Trabajo for the preparation of Presupuesto Quinquenal, the Comisión de Implantación del Estatuto del Personal Docente and the Mesa de Negociación with teaching and non-teaching staff.

He is Secretary General for the Consejo de Decanos y Decanas de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales de Universidades de Iberoamérica (CONIDECE). He is the author of research on financial supervision, corporate governance in central banks and the role of payment systems in financial inclusion.
