
María Andrea Giovine
Renowned Researcher and Director of the Instituto de Investigaciones Bibliográficas (IIB) at UNAM
Giovine Yáñez holds a PhD in Literature from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She is a full professor at the Instituto de Investigaciones Bibliográficas (IIB) of the UNAM and a member of the National System of Researchers, Level II.
Her lines of research revolve around the links between print and visual culture, with special interest in the circulation of modern art in print, the relationship between image and text, the crossovers between visuality and writing in the 20th and 21st centuries, the intermediality and the evolution of reading consciousness in the face of changes in textuality and its writing media over time.
The research projects that she has developed in recent years study and reflect on the aesthetic dimension of multiple works that are part of the documentary heritage safeguarded by the National Library and Newspaper Library.
Since February 2024, she has been Director of the Instituto de Investigaciones Bibliográficas, Biblioteca Nacional de México and Hemeroteca Nacional de México.
She has published the books Ver para leer and Palabra que figura. Una mirada a la configuración del sentido poético, as well as more than 19 academic articles. She has received the Medalla Alfonso Caso and the Distinción Universidad Nacional para Jóvenes Académicos by UNAM.
