
Leonardo Lomelí
Rector of National Autonomous University of Mexico
Lomelí Vanegas holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics, a Master's degree and a Doctorate in History from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he has stood out for his exceptional academic career.
Recognized with the Medalla Alfonso Caso in 2002 and second place in the Jesús Silva Herzog Prize in 2003, Lomelí has combined his background in economics and history to offer a unique perspective in his research.
Since 1994, he has been a central figure in the School of Economics, of which he served as Director from 2010 to 2014. He served as Secretary General of UNAM until 2023 when he was appointed rector of the University by the Board of Governors.
His prolific academic production includes books such as Liberalismo oligárquico y política económica and La política económica y el discurso de la reconstrucción nacional, as well as numerous colloquium proceedings and articles in specialized journals.
He is a member of the National System of Researchers with the category of national researcher level II. He is a full member of the Academia Mexicana de Economía Política, member of the Mexican Association of Economic History and the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
His work as text coordinator and thesis director has had a significant impact on the academic field, consolidating him as an influential leader at UNAM and beyond.
