Santiago Arau
One of Mexico's Best Photographers and Filmmaker Nominated for the Premio Ariel
Throughout his twenty-year career as a photographer, Santiago has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Mexico, Madrid, Venice, the Philippines, Tokyo, New York, Vienna, and more.
He has documented life in Mexico City from the air. He has done sports photography works in World Cups and the Olympic Games in Russia and Brazil obtaining the Golden Ring Award, granted by the International Olympic Committee. His photographs have been published by national and international media.
He has also done collaborations for NGOs and lectured at universities such as UNAM or Harvard. In 2017 he co-directed a documentary about the earthquake in Mexico City titled Ciudad herida, which was nominated for the Ariel and Emmy in 2018, and was winner of the IDA Documentary Award in 2019.
His work shows unlikely framing that surprises the viewer for being, on many occasions, commonplaces; on other occasions it is an economic, political, environmental and social critique. His photographs have flooded social networks and have been shared by millions of people.
In 2017 he published his first book titled Territorios published by the Fundación BBVA and, in 2023, he presented his second book called Patrimonio about the history of the Valley of Mexico.
