Consortando (ensamble)

Notorious Ensemble Dedicated to Renaissance Consort Music

"The human voice in the Renaissance was considered the perfect instrument."
?Mónica López Lau.

Consortando is a musical proposal whose objective is the diffusion and interpretation of music for consort (a musical term that designates a group of instruments from the same family or instruments from two families) during the Renaissance. The ensemble is made up by recorder players Mónica López Lau, Jacobo Poò and Ricardo Rodríguez, and viola da gamba player Mario Salinas; musicians graduated from the Escuela Superior de Música (INBA) and the Facultad de Música (UNAM).

The ensemble has performed at the Centro Nacional de las Artes, the Colegio de San Ildefonso and at the Sala Manuel M. Ponce of Palacio de Bellas Artes, and regularly collaborates with the Zarambeques y Muecas Dance and Theater Company dedicated to Mexican historical dance.

Consortando was a beneficiary of the 2018 Scenic Creators Program of National Endowment for Culture and Arts (FONCA).

Vocal polyphony is present in its repertoire, since at first the instruments doubled the voices. Among the most notable composers for consort music are John Dowland, Anthony Holborne, Tielman Susato, William Byrd, Matthew Locke, Orlando Di Lasso, Vincenzo Ruffo, Cipriano de Rore, Luca Marenzio, Baldassare Donato, among others.
