Antonio Allegra
Delegate of the Rector of the Università per Stranieri di Perugia and Outstanding Professor of Philosophy
Allegra is Professor of Philosophy at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia. The initial interest in the historical dynamics of scientific knowledge has led him to a growing attention to the question of identity and the subject, from modernity to some contemporary trends, recovering the humanism of the Italian tradition in a current context.
Also, in the last phase of its activity, the question of post- and transhumanism has become central, to be reconstructed in its philosophical genealogy and its ethical repercussions. Thematically, he has moved mainly in the field of modern (Locke) and contemporary (MacIntyre, Ricoeur, Taylor) thought; his interest in philosophical anthropology has also led him to research on the metaphysical concept of metamorphosis. He holds numerous positions at his university and is a member of ethics committees.
His publications include the books: Visioni transumane. Tecnica, salvezza, ideologia (in English Transhuman Visions. Technique, Salvation, Ideology), Orthotes, Napoli-Salerno 2017; Metamorfosi. Enigmi filosofici del cambiamento (in English Metamorphosis. Philosophical Enigmas of Change), Mimesis, Milano 2010; Dopo l'anima. Locke e il problema dell'identità personale alle origini del pensiero moderno (in English After the Soul. Locke and the Problem of Personal Identity in the Origins of Modern Thought), Studium, Rome 2005; Le trasformazioni della soggettività. Charles Taylor e la tradizione del moderno (in English Transformations of Subjectivity. Charles Taylor and the Tradition of the Modern), Ave, Rome 2002; and Identità e racconto. Forme di ricerca nel pensiero contemporaneo (in English Identity and Narrative. Forms of Research in Contemporary Thought), Esi, Napoli 1999.
