Argante Ciocci
One of the Great Researchers of Science and Mathematics in Italy
Argante Ciocci is a historian of science who studies the development of mathematical disciplines between the 15th and 17th centuries. He is a member of the Società Italiana di Storia della Scienza (SISS) (in English Italian Society for the History of Science) and the Società Italiana di Storia della Fisica e dell'Astronomia (SISFA) (in English Italian Society for the History of Physics and Astronomy), and is part of the research group for the Edizione Nazionale delle Opere Matematiche di Francesco Maurolico (in English National Edition of the Mathematical Works of Francesco Maurolico).
He has published numerous articles in prestigious national (Physis, Galilaeana, Nuncius, Bollettino di Storia delle Scienze Matematiche, Scientia) and international (Archive for the History of Exact Sciences) journals, and is the author of several books on Renaissance mathematics.
The research work he did during his doctoral years culminated in 2003 with the publication of the book Luca Pacioli e la matematizzazione del sapere nel Rinascimento (in English Luca Pacioli and the Mathematization of Knowledge in the Renaissance). His book Luca Pacioli: entre Piero della Francesca y Leonardo (in English Luca Pacioli: between Piero della Francesca and Leonardo) is dedicated to the links between the mathematical disciplines and the arts. His books also include a monograph on Friar Luca Pacioli, Luca Pacioli. La vita e le opere (available in English edition by the Centro Studi "Mario Pancrazi" at centrostudimariopancrazi.it), and another work on the Italian mathematician and humanist Federico Commandino, Federico Commandino. Umanesimo matematico e rivoluzione scientifica (in English Federico Commandino. Mathematical Humanism and Scientific Revolution).
