Nuria Galland

Director of the Museum of Mexican Medicine at the School of Medicine of the UNAM

"[...] unlike the Middle Ages where it was believed that, indeed, the creative action was merely divine and the only man could do was discover it, however, in the Renaissance there is a paradigm shift where, indeed, it is believed that the creative power of God can be emulated by the capacity of man, so creation are [sic] faculties that divinity shares with man. Creation becomes a human activity, hence why it is so valued."

She holds a Master’s degree in Art Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the Ibero-American University (UIA).

She currently serves as Director of the Museum of Mexican Medicine (located in Palace of the Inquisition) at the School of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

She has more than 15 years of experience in university teaching and has taught Art History at the Ibero-American University (UIA), the Mexico’s Autonomous Institute of Technology (ITAM), among other educational institutions.

Within the curatorial field, she has participated in various national and international temporary exhibitions dedicated to art and medical sciences.

Under her coordination, the School of Medicine, UNAM, has published various titles aimed at disseminating the history of medicine in Mexico. The recently published facsimile Rervm medicarvm Novæ Hispaniæ thesavrvs. Sev plantarvm animalivm mineralivm mexicanorvm historia by Francisco Hernández de Toledo, was awarded by the Secretariat of Culture, through the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), with the XXVI Premio Antonio García Cubas, in August 2024.
